Welcome …
New Sterling has been a part of this community
for over 220 years but please do not let our age cause you to think we are old
and stodgy. We are anything but! We are alive, vibrant, and active for our
Lord.
New Sterling emphasizes the preaching and
teaching of the Word of God and then encouraging that teaching to be lived out
in the lives of the people. The ministries of the church belong to the people
and God has gifted each one of us with the abilities necessary to accomplish
what he desires for his church. There are no associate pastors or ministry
directors but there are over 120 people involved in leading and conducting the
activities of the church. I believe it is my call to prepare the people for
works of service and then lead them to conduct that work in whatever area the
Lord has called them.
We are a church that is
Christ-oriented in all we do and we are excited about what our Lord has for us
in our future. I have had the privilege of pastoring
here since August 2001 (officially installed 1/2002) and in that time, I have
seen some mighty things God has done and continues to do.
As for me, I graduated
with a Masters Degree in Divinity in December 2001 from Reformed Theological
Seminary (RTS) in Charlotte,
NC. In 2009, I graduated from
Erskine Theological Seminary with a Doctorate of Ministry Degree. In March of
1999, I resigned from Duke Energy Corporation after more than 20 years
experience in the utility industry to answer God’s call into the ministry.
While at Duke, I served as a human performance consultant, nuclear systems
instructor, engineering technician and began my career as a maintenance
technician.
My hobbies include
reading, camping, spending time with Luke and Justin and sharing rides with my
wife and friends on our Harley Davidson.
I have had the
opportunity to serve in several capacities: Secretary of a Gideon Camp,
Chairman of the Board of Deacons and as Congregational Chairman, Elder (Vice
Moderator) and, along with my wife, Jr. High Youth Leaders. I presently sit on the
Board of Trustees for Erskine
College and Seminary.
My lovely wife, Judy, of
30 plus years and I are the parents of two daughters; Erin, (married to Greg
Hudgins, May 2000 & grandsons Luke who arrived in Feb 2004 and Justin, Nov
2007) and Marli, 16 who the Lord called home to be
with him in May of 2002.
We are excited about what
God is doing here at New Sterling. Please come and see for yourself what the
Lord may have in store for you.
